Now everyone is using Google services in their daily life. We all are having Android smartphone on which we use, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive etc. However, the reports from Quartz claims that Google is collecting location data from its user even when the location data is turned off.
If that was not enough for you, Quartz also confirms that the company is collecting data even when users don’t have SIM card inserted into their phone. Google is collecting location data from users with the help of cellular towers near Android devices – even when users disable location services on their smartphone.
Google is doing this since the beginning of 2017. However, according to google those location data were never stored or used and they are planning to end this practice by the end of November 2017. One of the Google’ spokesperson said:
“In January of this year, we began looking into using Cell ID codes as an additional signal to further improve the speed and performance of message delivery. However, we never incorporated Cell ID into our network sync system, so that data was immediately discarded, and we updated it to no longer request Cell ID.”
According to Google, the location data is used to improve the SMS delivery. However, there is no information as to how. Well, if we take a look at Google’s Privacy and Policy, it clearly mentions that they collect user information from Android Devices.
Well, if we talk about the Android operating system, the OS was never safe. Recent reports from Nokia Threat Intelligence throws lights on how vulnerable mobile operating systems are and Android is topping the list.
